Storyline Interaction, SMARTS Executive Function Curriculum

Storyline Interaction

Presenting an academic strategy

My team and I created a 7 unit curriculum teaching executive function strategies to K-12 students. This particular interaction aims to teach elementary students, who are still learning how to write, a strategy to organize their writing to support paragraph/essay writing. Within the Storyline interaction, different triggers, layers, and transitions are incorporated to engage learners beyond content presentation.

Something that I am particularly excited to share is that beyond sharing the strategy and having them practice it, I reveal how each step builds towards a larger goal-- creating a story in paragraph form. The ultimate skill we were teaching was how to take parts like brainstorming, a topic sentence, evidence, a conclusion and bringing it together to create a comprehensive story. Therefore, in the interaction, you will see that each section populates itself with each next step to reveal a comprehensive whole. This piecing together also creates a fun interaction for kids to see how their separate parts can create a complete story. It's almost like a magic trick for them which encourages them to try other examples and keep practicing the skill.

Additionally, I created and implemented a JavaScript code to add confetti to the last slide.
